OUR SERVICES

Breeding

Dr Candice Loft has a keen interest in canine preproduction as well as extensive training and experience, offering a tailored, end-to-end service to clients interested in canine breeding.

Here are some of the key aspects of canine reproduction veterinary services:

9

Breeding Consultations

Consultations to dog owners and breeders, particularly before breeding, is important so that Dr Candice can familiarize herself with you and your pet, discussing breeding plans, timing, and breed-specific considerations.

9

Artificial Insemination

Canine reproduction services may include artificial insemination (AI), which can be necessary when natural mating is not feasible due to factors such as geographic distance, physical limitations, or breeding difficulties. Different methods of AI, including vaginal and transcervical insemination, may be used.
9

Pregnancy Diagnosis

Reproductive veterinarians can diagnose pregnancy in dogs through various methods, including ultrasound, blood tests, and physical examinations.
9

Veterinarians can provide prenatal care for pregnant dogs, including nutritional advice, monitoring the pregnancy’s progress, and addressing any complications or concerns that may arise.
9

Whelping Assistance

For the whelping (birthing) process, veterinarians can provide assistance as needed. This includes managing complications, such as dystocia (difficult birth), and ensuring the safety of the mother and puppies.
9

Neonatal Care

Canine reproduction veterinarians are equipped to provide care for newborn puppies, including vaccinations, deworming, and addressing any health issues that may arise during the neonatal period.
9

Fertility Evaluation

These services often involve evaluating the fertility of breeding dogs, including sperm analysis for males and assessing the reproductive health and cycling of females.

9

Cesarean Sections

In cases where natural whelping is not possible or safe, veterinarians may perform cesarean sections (C-sections) to deliver puppies safely.
9

Genetic Counseling

Reproductive veterinarians can offer genetic counseling to breeders to help them make informed decisions about breeding choices and avoid inherited health issues.
9

Artificial Reproductive Technologies

Some veterinarians may offer advanced reproductive technologies, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or embryo transfer, to assist with breeding efforts.

9

Hormone Therapy

Hormonal therapies may be used to regulate the estrous cycle in females or to address fertility issues in both males and females.
9

Infertility Investigation

For dogs that are having difficulty conceiving, veterinarians can investigate and diagnose the causes of infertility, which may involve hormonal imbalances, anatomical issues, or infections.

Canine reproduction veterinary services are vital for maintaining the health and well-being of breeding dogs and for promoting responsible breeding practices. These services also play a significant role in preventing and addressing genetic and hereditary health issues within specific breeds. If you are a dog breeder or considering breeding your dog, consulting with a veterinarian who specializes in canine reproduction can be invaluable in ensuring the best possible outcomes for your dogs and their offspring.
